For products that require a “deployment” the customer must execute a Duplication and Distribution License (“Deployment Agreement”) which together with the LEADTOOLS EULA will govern the customer’s use of LEADTOOLS. The Deployment Agreement will require the customer to purchase desk top, concurrent or server deployment licenses as a condition of either internally deploying or commercially distributing the application developed with LEADTOOLS. The Deployment Agreement form can be reviewed here. To obtain an execution copy of the Deployment Agreement reflecting the products you have licensed, please contact licensing@leadtools.com.
The following LEADTOOLS SDKs require a Deployment Agreement:
LEADTOOLS Document Imaging Suite
LEADTOOLS Medical Imaging Suite
LEADTOOLS Advanced PDF Plug-in
LEADTOOLS Virtual Printer Module
LEADTOOLS Medical Multimedia Module
LEADTOOLS Video Streaming Module
LEADTOOLS MPEG-2 Transport Module
LEAD DirectShow Filters and Codecs
LEADTOOLS Document HTML5 Module
LEADTOOLS Medical HTML5 Module
The Licensing Dialog
If you have licensed a LEADTOOLS SDK requiring deployment licenses, you will notice that when compiling your application or running our demos, a dialog box will occasionally appear to remind you of the deployment license requirement:
We use this licensing dialog so that you can begin programming right away without having to wait for management or legal department approval of the required licensing documentation. This allows you to begin your project while management is working on the licensing documents with LEAD’s licensing department.
Temporary License
The LEADTOOLS SDK comes with a temporary license which will allow you to develop without providing a runtime license. Once the temporary license has expired, the toolkit will display an "expired" message and will cease to function. After the expiration date, the developer must provide a valid runtime license.
Runtime License File and Unlock Instructions
LEAD will provide you with a runtime license file, developer key and instructions to eliminate the licensing dialog, convert the license from temporary to permanent and disable the expiration as soon as you sign the Deployment Agreement. Contact licensing@leadtools.com to receive an execution copy of the Deployment Agreement for the product(s) you have purchased. Once you have completed the Deployment Agreement, please print it and fax or email it to LEAD’s licensing department. Once we receive the signed agreement, we will send you a runtime license file and a set of instructions to enable you to deploy your application in a production environment. This procedure will only take you a couple of minutes to implement
NOTE: We package our products requiring deployment licenses so that all product sets are enabled in the installation while the license dialog/watermark is present. Therefore, if the licensing dialog/watermark is being displayed, substantially ALL FEATURES of our product line will be enabled. When we provide you the unlock instructions and runtime license file and you compile your application, only the features that are included in the specific product(s) that you have licensed will be available. The features of products that are not under license will be locked. You can consult the help file or contact our support department to determine which product configuration includes the functions you plan to use.
Purchasing Deployment Licenses
At least one deployment license is required to be purchased at the time you send us the Deployment Agreement. Certain products require that you purchase a server deployment license as a condition of obtaining the development license (LEADTOOLS Document HTML5 Module and LEADTOOLS Medical HTML5 Module). Additional deployment licenses may be purchased at the prices set forth in the Deployment Agreement on a trailing basis after you deploy the application software. Paying for deployment licenses on a trailing basis does not allow you to realize any volume discount. Another way to purchase deployment licenses is to prepay the licenses prior to the time you deploy the Application Software. By prepaying for deployments before you deploy your application, you can realize substantial licensing cost savings!
Quarterly Reporting
The Deployment Agreements require that you account to LEAD by sending us a quarterly report indicating the number of deployments you have made during the recently ended quarter. LEAD will mail you the necessary deployment reporting forms on a quarterly basis well in advance of the due date for reporting. The form is very simple to complete and you can respond by email, fax or mail. LEAD does offer quantity unlimited licenses for some of our products. With the unlimited licenses, you are not required to report your deployment quantities or pay a per copy deployment rate. To inquire further about our quantity unlimited deployment license options, please send an email to oemsales@leadtools.com or call our sales department at 704-332-5532.
License Termination and Suspension
The quarterly reporting requirements described above must be complied with in order to maintain your license. If you do not submit quarterly deployment reports, your account will be flagged and you will not be eligible to receive technical support or upgrades. LEAD also reserves the right to conduct an audit to determine the number of copies of application software you have deployed. If you are not actively deploying copies of your application, you can request suspension of the quarterly reporting requirement. In addition, you can also voluntarily terminate your license and be relieved of the obligation to complete the quarterly reports going forward by certifying that you are not developing or deploying software with LEADTOOLS and have destroyed your copy of the software.
