SDK Documentation Engineer/Intern
LEAD Technologies, Inc., leading manufacturer of imaging software development kits (SDKs), seeks a computer engineering programmer-technical writer to produce documentation for SDK product lines. In this position, you will work closely with the support, QA and engineering divisions to produce and compile help files and design help system solutions for commercial production. Job Description
Duties and responsibilities will grow with experience and aptitude. Career path includes: documentation team (junior/senior help system engineer)-Support team (LEADTOOLS SDK client support)-development team (SDK engineer).
Initially, duties will include:
- Updating, compiling, and testing API and other help projects based on programmer-provided functional documentation.
- Adding keywords to help projects based on usage reports
- Testing solution builds
- Writing and updating Word macros for automated documentation tasks.
- Devising process improvements to automate documentation tasks
- Working with the Support division to identify and develop new topics and procedures
- Drafting & updating documentation procedures
Required Qualifications
The successful applicant will be a computer science/engineering major or have equivalent relevant experience. Students in other highly technical fields that require intensive computing skills are also encouraged to apply.
Strong attentiveness to detail, focus on task completion, and ability to quickly adopt and apply standards is required. Intuitive understanding of file/directory structures, desktop application navigation, and application/task switching is also a must. Initial training & orientation will be provided; thereafter, strong self-motivation and independent execution is expected.
Preferred Qualifications
A strong career interest in help system engineering, technical communications, content management system (CMS) development, H/XML data standards, SDK development, image processing/multimedia software, and/or multi-platform development (API, C++Clib, .NET) is highly preferred.
Evidence of such interest can include: formal coursework, the results of self-directed projects, student membership in relevant professional/technical organizations, or the ability to clearly articulate existing knowledge level and learning goals.
- Intermediate-Advanced MS Word skills strongly preferred, especially Word macro programming and the use and application of templates & stye sheets.
- Familiarity with Visual Studio 2005, Visual Source Safe (or similar), MSDN, API, C++ and/or .NET Class Library experience a plus.
- Prior experience in program documentation is a plus.
- Demonstrated help compiler experience a plus (Doc-to-Help, RoboHelp, MS HTML Help Workshop, etc.)

Starting Salary for Intern: $16.50–$22.50 hourly, commensurate with experience, with potential for long-term growth.
Hours: 20-40 per week starting, or full-time for postgraduate.

End-User Documentation Intern
