Helper method to align the heights of the items and return the largest value.

firstItemIndex: Index of the first item in itemBounds to align.
lastItemIndex: Index of the last item in itemBounds to align.
itemBounds: Array of item bounds to update.
alignment: Alignment to use.

Return Value

The largest height found.

This method is used by UpdateTransform.
