I have a scanned document with handwriting on it that I need to be converted to text. OCR does not work well this this, is there a better way or settings that I can change?

Yes there is a better way to go about doing this. The LEADTOOLS document imaging family SDK has additional add-ons that you may buy. The ICR (intelligent character recognition) add-on is capable of reading handwritten text and can recognize over 30 different languages.
