Is there a standalone demo app where I can test the SDKs against some of the barcodes used in my application. I'd like to do some simple tests before writing any code

No, we do not have a stand alone demo available for barcode, but our LEADTOOLS toolkit has an exe demo application that you can use. You could try to use our API Barcode demo project and code sample.
You can find the demo and the code of project in your start menu under the
following path:
[LEADTOOLS 14.5 Start
menu entry] -> Barcode ->API
Using this demo try to read the DataMatrix, PDF417 files that
have been captured by a camera phone. If you are not able to load them, could
you please put them in a zip file and attach them here.
