Downloaded the latest patch 14.5.0.028, copied all the redist files to system32, nothing else is changed. Everything works until I try to get a bitmap from inside an PDF file, I get the -729 error. This worked before the patch. What is the correct procedure to "install" a patch? Life would be easier if the patches came as an install program...

Hello,

Error -729 means the files required for initializing the PDF engine were not found or they were found, but are not correct.
To resolve the problem, you might need to install the PDF Runtime files.
Please send you query to LEADTOOLS support support@leadtools.com, so that we can send you the location where to download and install the PDF runtime files.

Thanks,
Maen Badwan

Is there an installer for the PDF runtime files, or do we have to hack the registry on each machine we install the PDF runtime on?

We've been getting the -729 error for the last couple of days on an installed version, and we haven't been able to figure out what's going wrong.

Yes, there is an installer, but you need to email support@leadtools.com to get those instructions.  You do not have to run the installer on client machines if you do not want to, you can also just deploy the necessary files and either add the registry keys necessary or use the L_SetPDFInitDir (or equivalent for your interface) function to specify where your application should look for the PDF runtime files.
