Hi all,
I'm working CSE company in VietNam. We are preparing a project about National Identification Card using 2D barcode. So, I need your help about 2D barcode. My some problems as follows:
1.Which 2D barcode is often used to print National Identification Card (idcard)?
2.Do you know which customers often use that 2D barcode? If you know, please let me know their name, email, website.
3.We use ID-1 standard card (53,98mm x 85,56mm) ISO-7810.That card is printed 2D barcode symbols.Can 2D barcode symbols (PDF417,RQ, or other 2d barcode) store up to 4Kbytes(text,photo,fingerprint,...) on that card ?
4.Some 2D barcode standards are patented. So PDF417,RQ is free? or we have to pay the money for the patentor to use them.
5.If PDF417,RQ are not free.
- How do I register it?
- Who do I contact to register?
6.We have intention to use moblie devices (e.i. Symbol MC5) intergrated 2D barcode scanner hardware to scan idcard. So what should I use optical or laser 2d barcode scanner?"
Thank you
Bac

Hello Bac,
The answers to your questions are as follows:
1) We do not have definite information regarding this, but I did
a brief research and it seems that PDF417 and DataMatrix are more
common for ID cards because of their higher capacity. DataMatrix
also occupies less space than PDF417.
2) Unfortunately, we do not disclose any customer information.
3) I don't have a specific answer for this one, nor is the help file
clear about it, so I will need to ask development. I will post
back when I get an answer.
4) 5) None of the barcode types is patented.
6) The choice of which typed of barcode reader to use is not related to
LEADTOOLS. LEADTOOLS writes standard barcode that should be read
by any type of compatible reader.

Regarding point (3), the DataMatrix barcode can hold up to 2,218 ASCII characters, while the
PDF417 can hold up to 1,850.
Chained DataMatrix barcodes can hold up to 33,225 characters.
