In some situations, one might want to add a simple color text or shape annotation to a black and white image but don't want to convert the entire image to 24bpp to conserve disk space.  Rather than multiplying the size of the file by about 24 (1bpp ->
24bpp), you can increase the file size by only a few KB per page.  Since you can save some annotations directly into the header of a TIFF file, this is possible. 

Attached is a small C# 2005 project that uses the LEADTOOLS v16 .NET libraries to accomplish this task.
