The LEAD HTML5 Medical Viewer is a web-based viewer can query and display patient, study, series, and instance information. The HTML5 Medical Viewer accesses the same database as the LEAD Medical Storage Server. The HTML5 Medical Viewer accesses the common database through web service calls, which use one or more medical viewer addins. The medical viewer addins then make calls to a medical storage data access layer to retrieve data from the common database. The same medical storage data access layer is used by both the LEAD Medical Storage Server and the LEAD HTML5 Medical viewer.
This guide provides topics to explain the various parts to the HTML5 Medical Viewer as well as a step-by-step walkthrough. Understanding how the framework operates is not required to make the changes listed in the tutorial; however, it is recommended reading to facilitate changing the framework to use other database schema.
The tutorial listed below describes the steps to connect the LEAD HTML5 Medical Viewer to a custom SQL database that you create in the LEAD Medical Storage Server Custom Database tutorial. This is achieved by creating and registering a custom medical storage data access layer that interacts with the custom database. You should understand and run through all of the steps of the prerequisite LEAD Medical Storage Server Custom Database tutorial before starting this tutorial.
Note that the LEAD HTML5 Medical Viewer also has full support for creating, saving, and retrieving softcopy presentation states (i.e annotations). The shipping database contains tables for storing presentation state information. For the tutorial, retrieving presentation states will be disabled since the tutorial database schema does not contain tables for storing presentation state information.
